This unit shows us the other side of the coin of the classroom teaching skills, those being the productive skills of speaking and writing. These two skills are then broken down into two parts, accuracy and fluency. Accuracy activities usually come within the study phase whilst fluency skills are part of the activate stage. In simple terms accuracy activities are used to produce correct language and fluency activities are used to allow the students to experiment and be creative with the language, both accuracy and fluency are as important as each other so therefore time needs to be dedicated to both. As a teacher we must encourage students to speak the language and not feel intimidated or fearful of doing so, good ways to encourage interaction include pair work, group work and making sure good planning has been done to ensure the class runs smoothly. Writing skills are the more difficult of the two, difficulties such as words that sound the same but are spelt differently, or and ore, words that are spelt the same but said differently, lead and lead and words that are spelt differently within the English and American English languages, colour and color.
