Teach English in GuAntong Zhen - Qinzhou Shi
Learning a bit more about the different types of specialist skills (reading/writing) was very interesting. You don't really think about the different types as you're doing it, you just, \"do it\". For example, I used to think that skimming and scanning was, well, essentially the same thing. But when you're scanning you're looking for something specific. Like the reading said, maybe it's last night's box score of your favorite baseball team, or in the case of the test, maybe it's your daily horoscope. With skimming, you're just glancing over something, just trying to get a rough idea of what it is you're reading. We can have some of the best listeners and readers in our class, but the students can only do so much if the topic itself is dry and boring. So a takeaway for me from this chapter was, interest. Pick things that will keep your students motivated and interested. And at times, maybe the content can be a little bit challenging, but that's when we, as instructors, need to step in, explain the vocabulary, and do activities (in the activate phase) where will help students fully utilize what they've learned through the lesson. Keep. Them. Interested!!
