Teach English in Dongchang Zhen - Qinzhou Shi
It has been interesting to think over and learn more about the \"Engage, Study and Active\" methodology. In some ways it is similar to how I structure a piano lesson. When learning a new piece of music, I first play the music for them to pique their interest and plant an aural image of the piece in their head. Then we look over the music for patterns and overall structure, which is similar to the \"studying\" in the ESA methodology. Finally, I help the student practice the trickier parts and let them try to work their way through parts of the piece, which I guess is somewhere between studying and activating. Having these sorts of basic frameworks in mind is very important for the teacher in terms of creating a cohesive class and making sure time is managed effectively. The ESA method creates a nice balance between a purposeful study of the language and practical application. I also like that throughout most of the class students will have the option to participate and provide input, by contributing thoughts and ideas during the engage section, correcting their classmates during the studying part, or improvising with the language while roleplaying, etc.
