In unit 14 I have learned about coursebooks and lesson materials. Authentic materials are what we normally would see and hear, like a newspaper article, menu or a radio show, while creative materials are usually designed by a teacher to replace or supplement materials from a course book. There are both disadvantages and advantages to using course book so if you can choose, you should choose the one that is most suitable for your group of students. You will also need to consider the price and availability of the coursebook for the students. The design, methology, mix and balance of skills, the syllabus, difficulty, relevant topics as well as if the teachers guide will provide the information the teacher need and which ancillary materials that are available. A coursebook should not be used for the whole lesson so the teacher should think about which items will motivate the students and which should be supplemented, adapter or replace. I feel I have learned what I should look for while choosing a course book and while I'm using a course book to prepare a lesson. I think it is very important that the material is both suitable and motivating for the students.
