This unit covered the sounds that make up the English language, how they are made, and how best to get students using them correctly. It went over the intonation of, where the stress is, and the phonetics of words and sentences. The unit also introduced the International Phonemic Alphabet that can be used to teach the sounds present in the English language. Ensuring that a student learns the correct pronunciation, intonation, and stress of words and sentences is very important because through the use of those they can make sure that what they say gives the meaning they want to give. Learning the IPA will also help students learn difficult words like though and through more easily.
