Unit 15 informed us of the typical evaluation methods teachers will encounter - and in some cases, should be prepared to give their students - before, during, and at the conclusion of delivering a course. There are three basic types of evaluations: 1) Tutorials - given to either individuals or the entire class. Because it may not be possible to provide tutorials on an individual basis, the group option may be more usual. 2) Evaluations - these are evaluations done by the students on course or content. These are not evaluations of the teacher, or \"smile sheets.\" It's important that if the teachers asks for this type of feedback that the feedback is implemented. This will show the students their opinions matter and are taken seriously to help improve the course content and the delivery. 3) Tests - there are several types of tests, from Placement Test, which are given before the course begins to determine what level everyone is at; to Achievement Test, which is administered at the end of a course; i.e. at the end of a school year to assess if a student passes the course. Progress tests are given periodically throughout the course. They can take the form of tests, quizzes, games, or other kinds of activities. Type and frequency may be set by the school but if not, the teacher will need to decide at which points during the course and which instruments to use, as well as evaluating the results and possibly making adjustments to address a specific class' needs. Another category of tests are the External Tests. These are more formal and take place off-site. A teacher may provide practice tests as preparation for taking these tests.
