Teach English in YaoAn Yaozu XiAng - Qingyuan Shi
In this lesson, I have learned how to manage a class. Eye contact is very important in the classroom. It should be used to show students that they are all involved, to encourage contributions, to indicate which student should be speaking, to maintain discipline, and to check that all students are participating. Gesture is useful for visual purposes. If a student doesn?t necessarily understand what the teacher is saying, the teacher can use universal gestures to help the student understand what is being said. Gesture can be used to give instructions, to increase or decrease the pace of a lesson, and to add visual interest. The voice of a teacher should be clear and concise so all students can understand what is being said. The class can be quieted down or given energy based off the volume of the teacher?s voice. I also learned that a student?s name should be used at the end of a question so other students don?t stop paying attention early on because a name was already called. I also learned about the pros and cons of grouping students in certain ways as well as the pros and cons of seating arrangements in the classroom. There is also a time and place to effectively write on the board so that a teacher?s back isn?t always facing the students. I learned about TTT and STT, as well as when they should be applied. One of the important pieces of information that I got from this lesson was how to build rapport with the students. It could have anything to do with how the seating is arranged to how often paired work is implemented. Being positive and acting as if you love your job is also very useful in the way the student and teacher relationship plays out.
