A conditional sentence is a sentence containing the word if. There are often divided into different types, such as: We use Zero Conditional to talk about things that are general truths and general habit. The structure is usually if/when + present tense, present tense. Example if you add one and one, you get two. We use First Conditional when we talk about real and possible situations. The structure is usually if + present simple, will. Example if there is no bread, I'll buy some more. We use Second Conditional when we talk about impossible things in the present or unlikely things in the future. The structure is usually if + past simple, would + verb. Example if I won lottery, I would travel the world. We use Third Conditional when we talk about things that didn't happen in the past and imaginary consequence. The structure is usually if + past perfect, would + have + past participle. Example if I had save my money, I could have bought a house. Sometimes we will combines a second conditional clause with a third conditional clause which is know as Mixed Conditional. The common structure is if + past perfect, would + verb. Example if I had brought water, I wouldn't be so thirsty. When we report conditionals and statements, some tenses and modals may change if the reported words are no longer time or are out-of-date. As a clue, the tenses will changes from past simple to past perfect, will changes to would, am/are/is changes to was/were and etc. If there is an expression of time/place in the sentence, it may be changed, depending on the situation.Example today changes to that day, tomorrow changes to the next day/ the following day, now changes to then, here changes to there and etc.
