Teach English in Shihuipu Zhen - Qingyuan Shi
The content of unit presents a lot of helpful information concerning the problems s/he may be faced to. The problems mentioned in the unit are as follows: - first class: the first class is really important as a teacher has do lots of work like establishing rapport with students (and between them), realize student' levels of English, their needs, weaknesses and strengths. - large classes: it may be a problem as a teacher should hold the attention of a great number of students and, since an individual-oriented approach is too time-consuming, pair and group work should be the most frequently-used ways of conducting activities. - use of native language: it is natural that teachers should encourage to speak English only and avoid using their native language as much as possible, but sometimes, in case one student cannot undertand the task, stronger students may help explaining the task in their native language. - reluctant students: almost in every class there will be at least one reluctant student and a teacher's goal is to try to get this student interested as well, it can be achieved by pair work, controlled practice, role-play, tape-recording, games, etc. - difficulties with listening texts: in most cases students study English in their own countires, so they lack the exposure to English, that is why it is natural that listening may preent a problem. What a teacher should do is not to give up on listening. Pre-teaching vocabulary and difficult grammar structure helps a lot. If students still struggle to understand the text a teacher can also use: cues, listening to the recording twice, (if students still do not understand the text, a teacher may try to read the script at a slowly pace) etc.
