Teach English in Lingbei Zhen - Qingyuan Shi
There are 7 future tenses. Similar to the present and past, there's the future simple, future continuous, future perfect and future perfect continuous. In addition, there's 'be going' + infinitive; there's also 2 present tenses that have future implications, the present simple and present continuous. The word 'will' is introduced with 4 of the future tenses. In the affirmative form the future simple is: will + verb; future continuous is: will be + present participle; future perfect is: will have + past participle; future perfect continuous is: will have been + present participle. The 'be going\" + infinitive form uses the aux verb 'to be' + going + infinitive; the present continuous uses the aux verb 'to be' + present participle. These 2 forms are the most frequently used forms of the future tense. These 2 tenses can be confused for one another, especially when the verb in the present continuous is 'to go'. The difference being the 'be going' + infinitive tense is always followed by a verb. An example is: I am going home tomorrow (present continuous); I am going to be home tomorrow ('be going' + infinitive). Lastly, there's the present simple tense with future applications. Such as, the bus leaves for New York at noon. There are numerous usages to express future meanings. Some refer to predictions or future events, a continuous prediction or future event, prediction of a completed action or when that action will be completed by. The teaching exercises should all have activities that require the students to express what they or someone intends to do. Some of these activities would include making up diaries or schedules, role playing, naming songs that have future tenses in the lyrics and prediction games.
