Teach English in Hedongnong Linchang - Qingyuan Shi
Throughout past few decades a variety of language teaching methods has been developed. Each of them has their own advantages and disadvantages and therefore it is impossible to tell which one is the best to use. It is important to promptly apply the ones which give the best results in certain situations. We should always bear in mind that the best learning environment for the learners is the one in which they are able to ¬?experience? the language i.e. maximum language exposure, encouragement to ?discover? language by themselves, tasks involving oral communication, etc. The ESA method displays a frame according to which a well-organized lesson can be carried out. It consists of three components ? namely: engage, study and activate. During the phase ?engage? the students should be ?warmed-up? and introduced into a new topic. During the phase ?study? the focus is on language/information. The following, ?activate? phase is very important because learners have the opportunity to actually freely use all what they have been learnt. The ESA lesson should always begin with the ?engage? and finish with the ?activate? phase, but the phases in between can be performed in any order. What I?ve learnt? The Unit provides many useful ideas when it comes to language activities. It is clearly explained when and why to apply them. I might use some of them in the future. Also, I?ve learnt that the ESA method phases, even though the lesson must be opened up with the ?engage? and ended up with the ?activate? phase, can be performed in any order in between the two according to what is suitable in certain class situation.
