Unit 20 relates to troubleshooting. Groups can be of two categories: a new one and an existing one. In the latter students are likely to know each other and be comfortable in the classroom, and they are aware of the EFL methodology. A teacher is to establish rapport, find out about the students, their needs and aspitaions, the language level. Questionnaires, surveys, Tell Us about - game, Pass the Ball -game, and needs analysis are the best options. As warmers, Hangman, Pictionary, tongue twisters and memrory games are used. When there are different levels in the classroom, a teacher may use different materials or the same materials with different tasks, or even not do anything (danger: a weaker students may feel frustrated, a stronger- bored...). The solution could be a pair-work: a stronger student with a weaker one. Teaching large classes, a teacher may use worksheets, pair / roup-work; check his/her clarity (voice, board, instructions); choral repetitions, it's better to appoint group leaders, and check the dynamics. It can be more challenging job. As per using a native language, it can be problematic in a monolingual classroom. To avoid this, make sure you use an appropriate level activities, explanations are clear to all members of the class, encourage the use of English, only respond to English, and constantly remind the students about L2. Reluctant students should be engaged in pair-work, controlled practice, role-playing, tape-recorder usage to point out errors. If there are difficulties with listening texts, pre-teach potentially difficult vocabulary. General comments: carry out the lesson at the pace of the majority, plan more activities for teh same material as extra tasks for the quickest ones.
