Teaching phonetics is normally a very difficult subject to teach. The phonetic alphabet is challenging for many students and hard to really grasp. However, teachers can use many strategies to teach phonics and make it easier to students. One way is to model using your own mouth, using visual materials, using nonsense words to practice intonation, tongue twisters and peer dictation. The teacher can always introduce phonemes little by little as not to make it too difficult for the students. My personal approach would be to try to expose the students to as many listening and speaking as possible so they can come up with a good pronunciation naturally. Ideally, there can be a small phonics review during the class, address pronunciation issues as the come up during the class and controlled dialogues and role play can always be a good way to improve the students pronunciation.
