Modal auxilary verbs are used before other verbs to add meaning to the main verb. Modal verbs are followed by a verb in its base form in present and future tenses. Modals with more than one meaning express the past in different ways. Passive and active sentences have the same meaning, only the focus change. In the passive voice the subject receives an action and the 'doer' of the action is not important. In the active voice the subject perfoms the action. Phrasal verbs consist of a verb plus one or two particles. 3 Basic types of phrasal verbs: Intransitive Transitive separable Transitive inseparable Intransitive phrasal verbs do not have objects. In separable phrasal verbs noun objects can go after the partice or between the verb and particle. Inseparable phrasal verbs noun and pronoun objects always go after the particle, the verb can not be seperate from the particle.
