It was interesting and useful to view an example of an unsuccessful lesson and a successful lesson, because it displayed clearly the concepts that have been taught in the previous units of this course. I could see clearly how a teacher's attitude affects the students and the success of the lesson, including the importance of the simple gestures of smiling and learning student names. I could see clearly that teachers need to make sure the lesson is appropriate for the students' level and be willing to give examples or different ways of explaining to help students understand. The students need to have ample time to practice language and the opportunity to be corrected respectfully in their use of language, which was not present in the first lesson. Also, in the second lesson, the teacher used a variety of activities and types of interactions, which was clearly more successful.
