This unit provided information on different types of course books and materials that can be used in an ESL classroom. It began by discussing the difference between created and authentic materials, and explained how each are typically used in the classroom. It also discussed the advantages and disadvantages of each, to allow for a better idea of when it is appropriate to use them. The unit also provided examples of created materials. Moreover, the unit described the various types of course books commonly used in ESL classrooms (for both British and American English), and went over the advantages and disadvantages of using a course book to teach. The most important thing this lesson offered was how to analyze a course book, as it is an integral part of how the teacher will conduct lessons. It is highly important to select material appropriate and advantageous to one's students.
