In this unit I learned about how I should and when I should assess my students and for what reasons. I should always use a placement test when receiving new students to a school to see what level class they should be put in, and then upon receiving them in a class it is also useful to give them a diagnostic test to better gauge where their strengths and weaknesses lie within their current level. It's also useful to give little progress tests or assessment games throughout the course to make sure that all the students are understanding each chapter or major lesson before moving on to the next one. I also now realize that it is a necessity to give standard 'for marks' tests as well. I think also practice tests for EFL examinations would be VERY helpful to students, especially to practice the speaking components because I think most students would get overly nervous for that part.
