Unit 11 covered two basic skills related to language, known as the receptive skills, ?reading? and listening?. The unit also discusses two reasons we may read or listen, i.e., for a purpose, e.g., to achieve a goal, and for entertainment. The unit also discusses how we read and listen with our eyes, ears, and minds to understand the words and to process them using our pre-existing knowledge to gain a better understanding using specialist skills to include, predictive skills, general ideas, specific information, detailed information, and deduction from context. The unit also discusses potential problems about learning a language contained in the text, the topic, and the task students will perform such as sentence and word lengths, and unfamiliar words that can present a problem for students. The unit also provides recommendations on how to manage such problems.
