Unit 5 introduced useful and thought-provoking ideas about organizing and managing a classroom. It helped me to visualize the differences between general childcare and things to consider about the role of a teacher. It was insightful to read about the misconception that teachers have to be extraverted and entertaining to be effective. I believe my personal style and low-key, but friendly. From what I learned in Unit 5, I hope to make my classroom have a friendly and relaxed energy that encourages mutual learning. Unit 5 also affirmed the importance of eye contact, gestures and tone, and how I can best use these to instruct, encourage and maintain discipline. It was also interesting to consider the impact of the classroom and desk arrangements on student-teacher and student-student interactions. I believe Unit 5 also adequately covered the importance of a STT and TTT balance.
