The essence of this unit is to first introduce two of the four basic language skills - Reading and Listening and to offer reasons for their value and contribution(s) to overall language development. We are given reasons for reading and listening as being associated with either purpose or entertainment along with various processes that are used in reading and/or listening, e.g.. predicting, skimming, scanning, et al. Possible or \"potential\" problems are cited that can affect the learning potential for developing adequate reading/learning skills and care should be taken and properly observed in preparation and presentation of topics, information and tasks for students to be engaged in. Introduction to appropriate vocabulary and information/content that is interesting and motivating for students can add considerable value to how students progress with their reading/listening skills.
