Teach English in DashAn Zhen - Qianxinan Buyizu Miaozu Zizhizh
This unit provided information and examples of theories, methods and techniques used in the classroom. Particular attention was paid to the components: engage, study, and activate, which should be employed by the teacher during every lesson. I learned numerous ways to engage students and how to complement these activities in the study and activate stages (role-play, miming, group work). My major take away however, was in reading about correction in the classroom. I learned that there is a difference between a mistake (a slip of the tongue) and an error (something more deeply engrained). This fact sets the foundation for how correction manifests in the classroom (from the students, or me as the teacher). The proceeding section about self, student, and teacher correction taught me how to correct without humiliating a student and how to balance correction with encouragement and praise.
