This unit covers coursebooks and lesson materials. There are many different options for materials when teaching English. For instance, authentic materials are those meant for native speakers, so their use in the classroom can gain students' interest as well as boost their confidence--if they are at a level to understand the material, that is. Created materials can also serve as a useful option to supplement students' study. Created materials include things such as role playing cards and picture activities. This unit gives many useful examples of these kinds of created materials. Finally, this unit covers the use of course books, which have many advantages and disadvantages. One advantage of using course books is that they have usually been tested for effectiveness, but a disadvantage is that course books are meant for a wide audience and may not suit the exact needs of a teacher's class.
