Unit II caused me to realize the amount of grammatical structures I take for granted and utilize subconsciously. This realization happened very early on in reading the unit, during the exercise used to enforce a general rule of thumb when organizing multiple adjectives in a sentence (size -> age -> colour -> material -> noun). When reading the three sentences, the third one was obviously the most natural for me to say but I was not sure exactly why. This unit showed me the importance of reflecting and recognizing the subtleties and multiple exceptions in the English language that I have failed to recognized prior to this course as a result of English being my native language. This realization is extremely beneficial and necessary when teaching english as a second language, as these subtleties and exceptions can cause a great deal of confusion and frustration in new learners of the language.
