I think the whole process of evaluating is important not only to the teacher but to the student as well. The placement test is important to ensure that a student is in the right place. they must not feel overwhelmed but rather confident. Diagnostic tests tell the educators what material will be important to cover in order to achieve success. The practice and progress tests let the teachers know if the lessons are being understood, and the achievement tests let us know that we have achieved our goal. We are constantly being tested in life wherever we go. Testing or evaluating gives us results we can measure in order to improve ourselves. With English speaking evaluations there are many useful ways to measure progress and don't necessarily have to be standardized tests. I as a teacher like to evaluate as I go and monitor progress in substance because some people are just not good test takers.
