Unit 12 centres on teaching the productive skills of speaking and writing. The unit first looks at speaking skills and illustrates the differences between accuracy and fluency, how to develop and encourage both skills, as well as offering ESA example lesson and guidelines for a creative speaking exercise. The unit then turns to developing writing skills focusing on handwriting, spelling, layout and punctuation and creative writing. The unit then gives an example of a typical ESA lesson for creative writing. The lesson concludes with an overview of using games in the classroom. This lesson gave me a much more thorough insight into teaching the productive skills that I had previously considered. In particular, the way the lesson breaks down speaking and writing into constitute parts, allowed me to reflect on the important aspect of each element and offered me methods in which to teach the skills.
