Depending on the level of your class, I found it quite helpful to see what approaches I could take to improve their speaking/writing skills. For example, with speaking lessons, the best, most suitable approach might be to incorporate drilling exercises or maybe even some guided role-play activities (of course, this is AFTER getting them engaged and interested in a certain topic). Following, work on allowing them to get creative with the language, but using games/activities that involve a lot of speaking (debates, games, role-play, etc.). This approach of intertwining both accuracy and fluency activities is, in my opinion, a very effective learning procedure. However, speaking is just as important as writing. When going over writing, keeping a general idea of the main four criterias (handwriting, layout, spelling, and creative writing) seems to be the best educational approach for learning students.
