Unit 14 on Coursebooks and Lesson Materials is a very informative one. It gives coverage to kinds of materials used by a teacher as well as advantages and disadvantages of the coursebooks. All lesson materials can be divided into Authentic (everything used by native speakers; not graded for level of learners) and Created (designed by a teacher to supplement the materials from a coursebook). To some of the aids and materials used in class we may refer: -visual aids (e.g. pictures, realia) -wipe board -dictionaries -CDs, cassettes, videos etc. These aids, especially visual ones, help to reduce TTT, add variety and interest stimulate discussions, and elicit the language. As mentioned before, use of a coursebook can have its pros and cons. To cut the long story short, a teacher should not overuse a coursebook and supplement it with other materials which will better meet a student's interests and level.
