This unit discussed different types of course materials and course books. It taught that authentic materials are materials that a native speaker would hear in their daily lives. Created materials are made by teachers to interest their students at the right level. Course books are a complete set of learning materials to guide students in learning English. I learned that even though course books can be very helpful, they still need to be supplemented to meet the needs of our individual students. Authentic materials are great for engaging our students and challenging them to be ready for the real English world, but we need to be careful to choose things that are appropriate for our students' levels. Created materials are time consuming, but very worth it to engage our students at an appropriate level. None of these options should be used exclusively, but in combination to best meet our students' needs.
