This unit covered the basics of reading and listening skills. Reading and listening are receptive skills, while speaking and writing are productive skills. The unit described the two main reasons and motives for reading and writing which are for purpose and for entertainment. The various ways that people read and listen were then described with helpful examples. For example, readers and listeners can use predictive skills, scanning, skimming, and deduction from context when reading or listening. Lastly, the unit covered some potential problems when teaching receptive skills and some ways to overcome the students difficulties. I have learnt the different purposes and ways to read and listen and how to incorporate the various skills into a lesson. Have also learnt how to address and overcome problems or difficulties that students may have when learning to use receptive skills when learning a new language.
