This unit identified the forms and uses of the different past tenses. It explained that the simple past tense is used when talking about actions that are already done or completed (when the time is given, when the time is asked about, and happened at a definite time in the past). It also introduced regular and irregular verbs. This unit also explained that the past continuous tense is used for interrupted past actions, an action which began before a certain time and continued after it and when describing things in past narratives. The unit also identified the past perfect tense as the past equivalent of the present perfect tense because it talks about actions that happened before other actions in the past. The unit also explained that the past perfect continuous tense is not frequently taught but it shows actions in the past that had been continuing up to the past moment being thought about or referred to.
