Pronunciation is probably the most neglected aspect of English language teaching. Most pronunciation, as a result, tends to concentrate on individual sounds, which although the most obvious, is not necessarily the most important part. Intonation is generally considered to be the variation in volume and pitch in a whole sentence, whereas stress is more concerned with individual words. Intonation carries the massage in a sentence. It is particularly important in questioning, agreeing or disagreeing, or confirming statements. It is also fundamental in the expression of emotions of feeling, e.g. sadness, happiness, disbelief, uncertainty. Usually the Verb receive the stress within the sentence. One word has only one stress, and can?t have two stresses. We can only stress syllables not individual vowels or consonants. Manner of articulation is plosive, Fricative, Nasal, Lateral, Affricate and approximant.
