Th use of coursebooks and the types of materials use in the classroom will differ a lot depending on the style of the teacher. Yet is is always best to keep the needs of your students in mind. Everything has its pros and cons. Coursebooks are great because the methods are tested, the content levels up, and the students can see their own progress. On the other hand strict use of them can become predictable and boring for the students and the content in the course book will not be geared specifically for your students. Authentic materials are nice because it exposes students to natural English and builds their confidence if they can understand it, but the material has to be carefully chosen. Last self made material can easily be geared toward the needs of the students but of course they take time to make. As a teacher it is important to find a balance that fits your style and the needs of your students.
