This unit covered the basic parts of speech, defining what they are and also explaining how they are used and why they are used in that way. Although everyone learns the parts of speech at one point or another during their schooling, myself included, there were a couple of things in this lesson that I had never thought of regarding parts of speech and a couple of things that I had not been doing correctly. For instance, it never crossed my mind that we follow a general order when using a string of adjectives, and I did not know that adverbs generally go after the object of a transitive verb, since I am inclined to place the adverb before the transitive verb. From understanding these two things and other examples in the unit, I realize that it is important to continuously refresh myself on English grammar and to think critically about English so that I can help non-native speakers understand and use it better.
