A lesson plan is useful in many capacities - first, it helps a teacher organize their thoughts and pinpoint their learning objectives, then follow through with activities to help meet the objectives in a logical way. It should include a variety of activities that use a variety of skills. Second, it functions as a working document to refer to and make notes on during class. This will help with anticipating challenges within class time, and allow flexibility based on how the lesson plan actually plays out in a class setting, and student feedback or learning styles, although the lesson plan should be made with all of these things in mind.
