In Unit 10 videos were used to show the importance of a well thought out lesson plan, and the impact that that can have on student engagement. The first video was a lesson in which the teacher was quite obviously ill prepared, unenthusiastic, and impatient. This was demonstrated by his unwillingness to help students, the boring nature of the lesson, disorganization, and his glum demeanor. In the second lesson the (same) teacher was very inviting, patient, willing to help students, well prepared, engaging, and organized. It is easy to see the difference in the student's reaction to these two very different approaches to teaching. In the first lesson the students are unenthusiastic, just like the teacher. They are afraid to share their answers, and I don't think I saw a single smile. In the second lesson the teacher creates an environment in which the students can enjoy their hour of learning, but still remain focused on the content.
