Teach English in Gangdu Zhen - Qiannan Buyizu Miaozu Zizhizhou
This unit briefly touched on a handful of common language teaching techniques such as Grammar-Translation and Community Language Learning. The main focus, however was on the Engage, Study, Activate (ESA) teaching technique. The material explored in detail what each state of the ESA should ideally contain, variations of the ESA pattern (such as Boomerang ESA), and provided examples of appropriate activities for each stage. At the end of the unit, how to give effective feed back was discussed. This final portion of the unit was probably the most useful part of the lesson to me. In particular, it made me aware that I should avoid interrupting students and that if a student is unable to self correct that I should not linger on that student, thereby humiliating them. I have inadvertently made both of these mistakes in my classroom. Now that I am aware that this is to be avoided, however, I will (hopefully) not make those mistakes again.
