Unit 20 briefly addresses some basic troubleshooting methods for new teachers. This unit provides suggestions about how to tackle the first lesson by building rapport along with how to use warmers to interest students at the beginning of a class meeting. The unit then provides some methods that teachers may consider when facing problem situations such as different levels in one class, large classes, student use of their native language, and coping with reluctant students. Finally, the unit discusses the common difficulty of utilizing listening texts in the classroom, while stressing its important. While a lot of these issues were covered in previous units, it is useful to have the common problems consolidated and distilled into a single unit to emphasize tips that may have been forgotten throughout the previous 19 units. Including this unit in the course makes the inevitability of some problems when teaching seem less impossible to solve.
