This lesson introduces the concept of teaching business or specialized English to non-native speakers, and overviews some of the career opportunities that go along with it. Most importantly, this course aims to explain how to teach English learners specializing in a variety of fields. An extensive knowledge of the field is not necessary, as the learners themselves should have the knowledge. The role of a teacher of business English is to give them the English skills necessary to communicate in their field. I learned that teaching business English is quite different from classroom English, and requires a bit more versatility. It also seems to have the potential to be very rewarding, as the learners in your classes are going to be using their English for their careers and may be more motivated to take responsibility for their education, as opposed to classroom learners who may have an unclear idea of how English will play a role in their futures.
