I really learned a lot from the Business English class portion of this unit because I can relate a lot to it. I teach an English class for adults that has more or less turned into a conversational class rather than a business class. The age ranges from 23 to 70, and everyone is at a different level. They are highly motivated, but the needs survey reminded me that I should do this in my class, in order to continue to be able to make lessons and converstational topics that are appropriate for them. I also learned that you should not use the student's native language, because then it lowers their motivation to learn English, when they know, as stated, if they wait long enough, the teacher will say it in their native language. I do this all the time, speaking Japanese to my ES and JHS students. I only wanted them to feel comfortable, and do not want to lower their motivation to learn English, so I will work more on not using Japanese during classes.
