This unit overviews basic classroom problems and how to solve them in all sorts of TEFL classrooms. In brand new classes, where the students do not know each other, it is useful to play games and establish rapport so the students are comfortable learning from one another. Warmers, like the Engage phase, are useful when kicking off the class for the week because it starts the class off in an engaged manner instead of the lesson beginning from a place of confusion and intimidation. Another important thing to keep in mind is that the students are learning English, and that as much discussion and questions during the class should be spoken and written in English if not everything. With reluctant students, who are often scared to participate out of fear of embarrassment, there are tools a teacher can use to get them engaged. A lot of this can be derived from not putting the students on spot and making sure they can confidence from supportive classmates.
