This unit covers the topic of course development. Before the start of a course, the students should be given a level test to determine the ability of the students, enabling the teacher to place them into groups according to ability. A needs analysis should also be done to give an idea of the students' previous learning experiences and what they will want and need in the course. There will be limiting factors when designing the syllabus and adjustments will have to be made as necessary. There are different theories to syllabus design, but in order to design a syllabus, the factors that need to be considered would be the length of the course, the number of progress tests throughout the course, language points that have to be covered and the ability of the group. Assessment is also an important component of a course to evaluate the knowledge of students. At the end of a course, a course evaluation should be done so you can evaluate and improve the course.
