This unit covered teaching productive skills to students. First, this unit explained that productive skills are both speaking and writing. Speaking and writing both share the same purpose, to communicate. Second, this unit explained the difference between accuracy and fluency. Accuracy focuses on producing correct language and is controlled by the teacher. Fluency focuses on allowing experimentation and creativity with the language and is controlled primarily by the student. Third, this unit explained the differences of controlled activities, guided activities, and creative communication activities, as well as how to encourage student participation. Finally, this unit explained writing skills and how they differ from speaking skills. I have learned that games should be a necessary part of a lesson no matter the age group being taught. I have also learned that though accuracy is important a teacher should always focus on the positive not on the mistakes.
