This unit gives an overview on how to teach specifically receptive skills. Infact there are two families of skills : receptive (which contains reading and listening) and productive (which includes speaking and writing). This unit explains the processes we look for when practising one of these receptive skills : it can be for a particular purpose or entertainment or a combination of both. Then we get an overview of the way our mind proceeds when reading or listening : it can either through predictive skills, scanning, skimming, looking for detailed information, deduction from context. Then some particular points that can be problematic are highlighted (language level, could be solved by pre-teaching some vocabulary at the beginning of the lesson) and the choice of the topics is also a crucial matter so it is a good thing to get to know the students interests. The unit ends with giving us a typical ESA patchwork lesson pattern with one definite example.
