This unit did an excellent job focusing on the structure and content of a lesson plan, as well as the importance of putting in the time and effort to construct a good lesson plan. I was also glad to see that it was pointed out that over time, an experienced teacher can learn to save time in lesson-planning (not by cutting corners, but by already recognizing what problem might occur and how best to resolve it). Inexperienced teachers learned in this unit that a lesson plan functions as an aid to planning, a working document and a record. They also learned what makes up a lesson plan (namely, the structure), and the importance of flexibility, goals, variety and balance when creating a lesson plan. The model worksheets were excellent resources as well, to assist new teachers in both recognizing and in creating suitable worksheets for their students. The blank lesson plan and self-evaluation form will also be invaluable to all new teachers entering the field.
