Unit 3 explored a variety of strategies for effectively managing a classroom. It described the importance of eye contact, tone of voice, and the strategic employment of students' names as methods for promoting attention, participation, and general classroom cohesion. It also discussed the respective benefits of various classroom organizational models and grouping strategies. The Unit considered a number of tools for gauging students' understanding in real time. One tip that stood out for me concerned the futility of the question \"Do you understand?\" As the author rightly pointed out, it is more effective to have students explain instructions back to you, in order to ensure that they genuinely undertand the task at hand. Finally, Unit 3 presented a number of strategies for recognizing and responding to behavioral problems, including the establishment of a rapport with students, consistency in behavior and expectations, and the maintenance of a calm demeanor.
