This unit summarizes the characteristics of what makes a good teacher as well as a good learner. Several characteristics were listed to describe what makes an effective teacher, including having strong interpersonal skills, the ability to build rapport with students, encourage, as well as being patient, caring, and kind to support student learning. The unit also summarized the qualities of what makes a good student. There were several factors that were considered including the student's age, cultural background, language level, life experience, motivation, and their willingness to take risks. This unit provided me with vital insight as to what would make a motivating and encouraging teacher that supports student learning in a safe environment. Given the information, it seems that through using various roles and teaching styles, teachers are most likely to create an environment that supports student learning, while allowing them to take risks in the classroom.
