One of the most important tasks of a good teacher is to provide max level of 'natural (foreign) language acquisition' or students. This task is not easy to complete, but there have been elaborated few methodologies which can simplify and direct teaching process. For many years the main principle of teaching was 'grammar-translation', which is in fact a translation system and makes students search and find equivalents for foreign words in their native language. I believe this way of teaching should be applied after a student reaches a certain level in English and can properly distinguish nuances. There are also other teaching methods, such as audio-lingualism, presentation, suggestopaedia, lexical approach, communicative language teaching etc. In my opinion all approaches complement one another. A lesson should be built in an unpredictable way and should suit students level. A good teacher shall engage students, let them study and help activate new skills.
