Intonation carries the massage in a sentence. The normal pattern of intonation in a statement is the rise/fall intonation. The second common pattern is fall/rise intonation to indicate surprise or disagreement. The thrird intonation pattern is basically flat. There are some techniques for teaching the intonation: by gesture, humming, singing, giving the intonation to nonsense words. The strong part is the stressed word, or the word that bears the principal emphasis in the sentence. There are a lot of techniques for teaching the right stress: contrastive stress, choral work, stress marks. There is a universal phonetic alphabet that helps to understand the sounds better. There are voiced and unvoiced consonants. By the place of articulation sounds can be devided into velar, palatal, palatal-alveolar, alveolar, bilabial, glotal, dental and labio-dental. By manner of articulation sounds can be devided into plosive, fricative, nasal, lateral, affricative and approximant.
