This unit was important for an ESL teacher because it discussed ESA (engage, study, and activate). To have a successful lesson a teacher must include all three stages in the lesson. Engage is when the teacher tries to arouse students' interest and have the students speaking as much English as possible. The study stage is when the students focus on the language and how the language is constructed. This stage (study) is more directed to focused on the construction of language instead of engaging. The activate stage is when students are encouraged to use all of the language they know, and fluency is more important than accuracy. This unit also discussed different ways to use ESA in lesson plans using the straight-arrow lesson, boomerang lesson, and patchwork lesson. The unit also helped me to understand how to correct students. The student must know their mistake, and should try to fix their mistake. If it is an error than the teacher needs to address the error with the student.
