This unit describes the importance of tests and assessments, advantages and disadvantages and it clarifies the different kinds of tests and the purpose of them. I think it is important as a tutor to be clear of what you want to achieve with the test, what kind of test to use when and for whose benefit it is. Example: At the start of a new class it is important for the teacher to know what language level the students are on to ensure they are in the right class. It would be very difficult to have beginners and advanced students in the same class. Throughout the course, it would be beneficent for both the students and the teacher to have short progress tests to monitor the learning is on the right track and highlights any gaps and to identify the students? individual strengths and weaknesses. Depending on the purpose of the course, it may finish with a larger external exam and to assist the students with the study for that it would be good to run a few practice tests prior.
